We the People (or, The Truth Will Out)

A prayer for the people: Dear Lord, we are weary. Thinking well takes energy and we don’t have the time or patience. We fall into hate because it’s easier. It makes us feel powerful and protects our soft underbelly. All our problems are the enemy’s fault (the more enemies the better). Truth is the enemy of fear, and no one is more frightened than the hateful (though they are loathe to admit it). Lacking in faith, in trust, in equanimity, un-interested in dialogue, they use their cleverness to name call and shame. Truth trusts, and has no reason to turn nasty and attack. What are we so afraid of?

We the people, seemingly disposable, deserve a government which serves us and not itself. We deserve truth; the whole truth and nothing but the truth. And when it arrives, I hope that it’s so un-deniable, so crystal clear, so un-contestable, it will serve us all.
