Wait Patiently

Who has patience for a complicated journey, when your investment is in arrival? “There is no North Star in the sky to guide us unless we put it there, and the only way to do this is by trudging North.” Dr. George Weinberg.

This morning there are tiny ants on the kitchen counter. I don’t know why. There’s a mouth full of grounds in the bottom of my coffee cup. This too is new. And the rain, relentless, has driven away the sun and my job is to welcome all of it, daily, however reality presents itself. Without objection or preference or disappointment. It’s a tall order, but we are here to evolve and I will drink the dregs of the cup I’ve been offered (some say that I have chosen it. Either way, there’s no way to give it back (I did try to give it back but God refused it)).

Patience is saintly, and I am far too human to be so blessed. Faith is built by waiting with assurance, but even waiting doubtfully is still an opening for miracles. Only human, I curse and whine and sometimes roll my eyes, but my heart understands the reason for its existence. My heart is simple. It loves. The mind makes things so complicated. Where did the ants get it? How do I stop them? What’s ailing Mr. Coffee? I just cleaned him! Brown filters are better than White, I knew it!

Wait patiently, my friends, or better yet, give up on waiting and go on without that thing you think you need, that thing which will make your life better. In time, it may catch up with you. You’ll be so busy doing other things you’ll have forgotten your desperation. Go North, even without a polestar. Be willing to be surprised. Amazed. Delighted.
