To be so loved

They are beautiful and graceful, yet can terrorize. Majestic in water and awkward on land. Sweet to friends and surly to strangers. Fabulous parents, nurturing and protective, until their young mature. Then they drive them off mercilessly, demanding, insisting they find a new home.

They mourn their losses just like we do. Words are unnecessary in deep grief. They are faithful beyond reason. Serious yet playful. Intelligent, yet insanely territorial. Teachable, yet sometimes stubborn. They will defend and protect their family to the death.

If you are lucky enough to be so loved, you will be so loved, forever.
