There and Not There

Sure, I walk to that corner and talk to her there. There and not there, in our kitchen. There and not there, everywhere in this quiet house. Even if only in my imagining, why wouldn’t she be there to hear me? The veil is so much thinner than we think. Listen. Love is sending out a message. Saying, “Remember me.” After awhile, when the wailing ceases and smiles return, the soul restored to balance, grief curls up inside your heart; warm and solid, soft and sweet. There and not there.
