Still Standing
At the dark edge of the woods, the wolves are waiting. Hungry, with the patience of sweet Jesus, willing you to falter. Be skillfully aware or be devoured. Some of us learn this lesson early. Some never do, and are reckless at their own peril.
When you come through the woods, still standing, you don’t take anything for granted. Every breath is a miracle. Every leaf is a marvel of Creation. In the woods, everyone is hungry. Everyone gets lonely. Everyone suffers loss. There’s no avoiding pain. If you have love, you’re fortunate and blessed. Keep hold of a good love. Whatever holds you back, be free of it.
Bring the wolves a salad; just to behold the whimsy of their befuddlement. Walk on by, humbly yet proudly. Sink your feet deep into the moist earth. Don’t Be Afraid.
