For Carol, who isn’t fond of poetry

A poem is an invitation. An offering. Opening. Talisman. Blessing. A window opened on a long forgotten dream.

A poem is a fragile seedling. A cavernous longing. A remembering and a forgetting. A hope, a wish, a miracle. A poem is both a promise and a prayer. Silence and song. Lover and Beloved.

A poem shines a light in the darkening forest, dazzling the firmament with the faithfulness of great wings.

A poem is a portal. A mystical meandering. A magical quest. Softer than a bed of fur and feathers, a poem is the sweetest nest.
