Feed the Belly Starve the Soul

I would rather my son run free
in the meadow, saddle-less and
satisfied, than be groomed for
the racetrack, that never-ending
acquiring of evaporating laurels
(you know what happens when
the horses stop running).
Talent should be rewarded, but
work with little interest in the
outcome feeds the belly but
starves the soul.
