Enough

This morning I read that you can buy assault rifles in Boulder. Why does anyone need an assault rifle? Then I read about a guy with an assault rifle killing people in a store. Innocent strangers, buying stuff for dinner. And I’m no genius but how could I not put the two together?

It’s a right to own a gun. Some old dead white guys said so. Made it into law. But did they see the machine gun coming? Would they sign on to “It’s your right to shoot people if you need to? Protecting property is one thing. Senseless violence is (no word. Reprehensible is the best I can do and even that’s not enough).

It’s no one’s right to take away from life. As a woman who has given birth, I say life is a miracle, and we should do our utmost to uphold, protect, and nurture it. The making, selling, buying of assault weapons is not promoting peace. How many innocents have to die, while we recite from our dead parchment?
