Done with ‘Nice’
In this, the final chapter of my life, I can afford to be bold, and a little reckless. Nice girls follow rules, afraid to break them. Smart girls make their own, and if there’s hell to pay they pay it. It’s worth it to be free.
I have only one rule at the top of the list, never budging an inch: ‘Say what you mean and mean what you say’. It must, above all, be honest, and if you can say it kindly, so much the better. Now and then you can’t (“No one likes you. You should just move.” Ouch. Truth lands a sucker punch. Still, no one likes her, but I am coming closer).
I pray for the president, his family and his minions and I pray for this country. He has a funny definition of ‘Greatness’, but at some point he’ll have plenty of time to read. I started reading about Greatness when I was little, and packed my suitcase full of awe and wonder, at the things which people triumph over. With patience, wisdom, and perseverance, they carry on, leaving hope and promise for the rest of us.
Just yesterday, I wanted to be Great, but it was for the wrong reason and so I wasn’t. God keeps me humble by reminding me that I am but an instrument, a servant, a messenger, a mouthpiece. Let my words point the way to the Great gate of Gratefulness.
