Do You Ever Shut Up?

Day after day, a cacophany of Grackles. Insistently loud, demanding. Harsh and neverending. Not even stopping to breathe (like the neighbor dogs tied up out front all day (no longer). I’ve tried hard to love them but they don’t make it easy and now this, from Google: they eat the brains of Sparrows. I’m sorry, that’s just not cool with me. I cannot love them, and I cannot, of late, even tolerate them. And this is the seat of war, and we must all get over it. Every sentient being, no matter how annoying, deserves decency and respect. Hate is a decision. An easy one, it seems, when Love demands an effort.
