Darker Than any Darkness

I came into this world with a fire in my soul, and it burned away my innocence and startled my eyes wide open. This fire was frightening, and so I worked to smother it. Starved for air, smoking and sputtering, it stung so bad I had to shut my eyes. The world without my eyes was black. My soul without its fire was like the sun or moon eclipsed; darker than any darkness. Living without light was more frightening than fire. I took the fire back ~ if only to regain my vision, and understand now, more than I ever did before, this fire is Holy. God meant it as a gift.
