An Unpaid Actress
I was asked to pretend that I was fine, that all was well. That trouble and chaos were busy visiting other families, but ours was happy. It was surreal, yet I excelled at it. Hid behind props and personas, none of it me, but it felt safer than the truth.
When the curtain is pulled back and the great Wizard is a sham, the hard work begins. To give up pretending, to be brave enough to be real, is to practice telling the truth (even when it’d be easier to lie), until the day you realize that lying is a song you’ve forgotten all the words to. Lying is a story you no longer need to tell. Lying is a curse, a darkness blotting out the sun.
Love would never ask your disavowal of the truth.
Truth would never turn away from love.
Daily discern the sham from the reality.
Shine a light on the lie, to decipher it.
