A Story From Lori
This morning was a debacle of a different nature. Car parked, longer walk, complicated passage but I made it. Called, waited, nothing. A first. I mean, ever. In 25 years, it’s only happened once, when William was hiding his family after Angel was killed by I’m guessing Coyote. And it was a wise decision. Other than that, I call they come, they’ve spoiled me.
Since I’d returned to the open water (after the ice debacle), I had no idea why they wouldn’t show up to that, and after a goodly long time of yelling and conjecturing, I went back the way I came. A goodly long walk through some crazy dead brambles and back up to the road and on the way to my car, just beyond the pretty house I see them, make sure, as the snow lumps can trick you and there’s no way I can do the crazy bramble scamper through the woods again and not have a heart attack so I ring the bell, explain the situation, panting, and ask if I can just run through their back yard and be there. He looks at me like, well, I had an ice breaker which looked like a lethal weapon and 3 skewed hats and a bucket. I deserved the look but he said, ur, sure, to see the swans. And I ran and was there, and it was a beautiful thing and the sun returned briefly and it didn’t feel like 20 something and here is Buzz, once again, claiming the spotlight, he’s so beautiful. Then I went back through the woods and the crazy brambles, not wanting to push my luck with the convenience favor, (if I was really going for broke I’d have asked to put my car there for the rest of the winter, lolol), and the road is so narrow I couldn’t get over to the side and a woman stopped traffic thinking I had fallen and hurt myself and then traffic the other way stopped too, to see what I was going to do so I got up and went and stood in the driveway of the pretty house til all the cars passed. It’s not the best plan but what can I do? Thanks for listening. And I lost my lumberjack red hat in the woods, bummer.
